Windows Media Player 11 (VIsta (Home Premium))
For some unknown reason Windows Media Player 11 will no longer open. Is there software installtions that may cause a conflict with WMP and disable it...I note Secunia has recomended several QT version update but any other ideas as to what might bbe causing the problem....WMP probably disable a few weeks ago and I don't have a good restore point....Any help appreciated....

Do you get an error message? Have you checked the event logs?See Some Windows Vista functions may not work, or Windows Vista may stop responding for help on running system file checker.

Re: Windows Media Player 11 (VIsta (Home Premium))
WMP will nolt open at all so there are no error messages...ran SFC.EXE and results indicate there are some system errors...Then look at CBS.LOG and this is very difficult to determine which entries have errors......maybe I just nned to wait until update 1 comes out and this will make any need system repairs. BTW, is there any software that will replace WMP, particularly which will work for Web-Radio or similar...? Thanks for the help....

Thanks for the help, but suggested link for repairing Vista found errors but could not automatically repair....I think I will just wait for the SP-1 release and hope this will repair WMP....

You must have an installation DVD and have the system set to boot from DVD first. Do you mean the installation would not start?

Re: Windows Media Player 11 (VIsta (Home Premium))
To make the matters more complicated my Vista Home Premium DVD is damaged and it will not boot, but I have a Windows Anytime Upgrade DVD which I used to perform the repair. The latter repair completed successfully but indicated there was a problem which could not be repaired automatically.
After rurnning the Anytime Upgrade DVD tried to open WMP with no success...it will simply not run anymore (I suspect there is some software conflict). When Vista SP-1 gets released I hope this will restore WMP back to a working condition....Thanks for the advice....

You can install Vista SP-1 Release Candidate right now.
But remember, you must uninstall SP-1 RC when the final version of SP-1 will be released.
For detailed instructions, see
Windows Vista Service Pack 1 RC Public Availability Program
For uninstall information, see
Release notes for the Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Release Candidate

Re: Windows Media Player 11 (VIsta (Home Premium))
Thanks for the info, but I will wait until SP-1 final is released...don't want to install RC-1, uninstall it, and then install SP-1...dangerous stuff for me as current installation is working fine except WMP not functioning (which I can live without if there is no other alternative software)....Thanks again for the help and info..

Are you trying to execute WMP from a shortcut? What happens if you double click C:Program FilesWindows Media Playerwmplayer.exe?

Re: Windows Media Player 11 (VIsta (Home Premium))
Tried opening WMP from the install director, wmplayer.exe, still will not open....after a second or so it just stops loading...very similar to when I attempt to open it from a shortcut....guess I will have to wait until SP-1 final gets release!!! BTW, installed version is 11.0.6000.6344 and when I try to reinstall WMP I get an error that the version I am trying to reinstall (11.0.6000.6324) is older than the installed version....

Re: Windows Media Player 11 (VIsta (Home Premium))
I have the '6344' version and it works fine. See WMP FAQ: A trouble-shooting guide for Windows Media Player problems. for some possible help. With Vista you can not reinstall WMP separately. You must repair/reinstall Vista. If you want to try a different player see Zune.net | Zune Software.

Re: Windows Media Player 11 (VIsta (Home Premium))
Hi joe
I don't have a problem with WMP at the moment, I was interested in this thread because I have Vista Ultimate on an Acer machine where disks are not supplied the files are on a hard drive, if I had this problem would I have to do a complete re-install?
