    Forgot password

Pulled my old Dell laptop running Vista to look for some old files I can not locate.

Computer worked, but one of two accounts is password protected. Of course I tried all the old passwords I
could locate, but it seems I have FORGOTTEN the correct one.

I am sure this has come up before, but how do I reset the password when I cannot open the user account?

I could load a program via flashdrive using the account I can open. Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

If the account that works is an Administrative account, you should be able to set a new password for the other account via:
Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Security

Some but not all computer fixit places use USB or DVD PC-Unlocker utility boot.

I regularly attend customers who have forgotten their password to log in to Windows and have had best success with Offline NT Password & Registry Editor.

I certainly agree that it is a winner. However, I've found that a lot of people get confused when they attempt to use it unless you walk them through each step in the process.

Here's a tool from Microsoft that allows you to change account passwords:

I don't know which software do you refer to. Is it this one?

I am currently locked out of my Dell Venue Pro and can't get either Hiren's BootCD or Offline NT Password to work. So I am also looking for a paid tool.
    Thanks!
