Notepad -- opening a networked file that is already opened - can this be prevented
Hello -- I often work on batch files in Notepad; the files are stored on a shared network drive. I know that if I try to open a Word document that someone else has already opened, Windows tells me that I can only open the document as read-only. Is there any way to have Windows act the same way when a file (in this case, a .BAT file) is opened? Right now, if I am working on a batch file and someone else opens the same file, the other person can open the file, edit it, and save it, but when I later save what I have done, my edits clobber the other person's changes. So is there a way to prevent this from occurring? Thanks in advance for all responses.

Geistman,
Look into NotePad++. When I have a file open in NP++ and run a program that changes that file NP++ puts up a notice that the file has changed!

RG has a good answer - I get the same problem as you, since I am often remote desktopping to another server, and can have the same BATch file open in both...
