    Google drive

I can no longer sync to G drive. I was told to download and install Backup and Sync. I did so, but I get an error everytime I try to install it. Running Windows 7 HP 64 bit and Chrome is not installed on my PC. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Some time ago, I had a similar problem -- I'm commenting in order to follow this thread, I'm wanting the same answer you are seeking.

When you can't sync do you get any error messages?
You should already have Backup and Sync loaded and you sign in to Gdrive with that.
Does anything else in Windows not work?

    cheers, Paul

I had to do this same thing many months ago and ran into the same issue at the time. I reget now that I didn't make better notes but if I remember correctly I had to log out of my Google account on my PC and stop the Google services in order to sucessfully install Google's Backup and Sync.

    Try this:

    1. Using Google, search for Google Drive on the web and select the main link (shown as a). In my case (locale) it was https://www.google.co.uk/drive/. (Note that the Drive link shown at b is for the business service.)

    2. Click on the Go to Google Drive link (which takes you to the appropriate service in your own locale):

    3. If you're logged into Google Drive you'll see your first initial or photo in a circle on the top-right (mine's R for Rick):
    google_drive_03.jpg

    4. Click on it and choose to Sign out:
    google_drive_04.jpg
(If you're not logged into Google then just ignore step 4.)

    5. Close the browser window and, instead, open the Services control (services.msc):

    6. Scroll down to the Google services and make sure they are not running. Stop them if necessary:

    7. Have another go at installing Backup and Sync.

If all goes well then log back into your Google account.

    Hope this helps...

Thanks for the detailed instructions Rick. Unfortunately that did not work and I still got the same error message. I might try the stand alone installer instead of the web installer after I find out if I need to uninstall the old G drive and what will happen to my files if I do.
