    Dell 2350 beeping.

Among my computers, I have a Dell 2350 desktop that I have had since 2003 - seems to be working fine in the duties I have given it.

That being said it has started beeping at me. Initially I thought it was my UPS battery back up and got a new battery for it, but after installing the new battery after the Dell 2350 fully booted up the beeping returned.

A quick perusal of the Owners Manual doesn't give any clues. Any ideas?

As you haven't mentioned the beep sequence, it's probably best to point you to the Dell Beep Code guide.

    Hope this helps...

Beep is a steady 1/2 second or slightly less continuous pattern.

I cannot see any entry for continous repetition, nor in the specific Dell Dimension 2350 manual. Are you sure it's not 5 beeps repeated (i.e. CMOS battery). If the system is 15 years old then this is more than a likely cause.

If the system boots up then try running the Dell Diagnostics.

    Hope this helps...

There is no sequence - just continuous beeping. I tend to agree that it is probably the CMOS battery as over 15 years is a long life for a battery.

Assuming that it's just one beep, continuously repeated, then this could be a corrupt BIOS (particularly if the CMOS battery is failing). In the BIOS there should be an option to reset the BIOS with default values. It's F2 at the Dell logo screen to enter the BIOS then probably the Advanced menu (but that's a guess).

For whatever reason - after several hours of beeping - the beeping has stopped ?????????????
